Compline on Zoom
Tues., Mar. 31, 8:30 pm; on Zoom
The ancient office of Compline derives its name from a Latin word, completorium meaning ‘completion’. It is a service of quiet and reflection before rest at the end of the day. Compline includes a confession of sins; one or more psalms; a short reading from scripture; responses; the Lord’s Prayer; collects which ask for God’s protection during the night to come; and the canticle Nunc dimittis. A hymn for the evening may follow the short reading from scripture. The collects may be followed by a time of silence, along with space to offer your own prayers of intercession and thanksgiving.
- The service starts on page 127 of the Book of Common Prayer.
- While our service begins at 8:30 pm, the Zoom room will open at 8:15 pm for friendly chat.
- Join in on Zoom here. Or by calling 1-646-558-8656 and entering Meeting ID 206 654 379

Choral Evensong

Based on the monastic offices of the Roman church, the English Book of Common Prayer combines the multiple hours of observance for the medieval monks into two: Matins and Evensong. At its simplest, Evensong marks the passing of another day.

Maundy Thursday Worship
Thurs., Apr. 2, 7 pm, Church
Bishop Whitworth will preach and preside at the table for our Maundy Thursday service.
Maundy Thursday, or Holy Thursday, takes its name from the Latin mandatum, meaning “commandment.” This “mandate” refers to the New Commandment Jesus gave his disciples: to love one another.
Maundy Thursday begins the three day observance called “the Triduum.” These three days recall the events of Jesus’ Last Supper; Crucifixion and Death; and Resurrection.
During the Maundy Thursday service, we hear the story of the Last Supper when Jesus humbles himself and washes his disciples’ feet. In commemoration of these acts and in response to the New Commandment, we wash one another’s feet during this service.
Finally, we will abide Jesus’ commission to eat bread and drink wine “in remembrance of [him].” After Communion, we will ready for Good Friday with the “stripping of the altar,” the removal of church adornments.
Stay Awake and Pray for the Gethsemane Watch
Maundy Thursday, Apr. 2, 8 pm – Good Friday, Apr. 3, 10 am; Chapel and/or on Zoom
As our Maundy Thursday worship concludes, we will begin a “Gethsemane Watch” through the hours of the night. Recalling Jesus’ gathering with his disciples in the garden just before his arrest, we honor Jesus’ charge to “Stay awake and pray.” The Watch will begin in-person at the conclusion of our 7pm Maundy Thursday Service with the procession of the reserved sacrament to the chapel. The in-person vigil will continue until 10 pm. We will then, pray through the night at home. The Watch will resume in-person at 6 am, on Good Friday and conclude at 10 am, just before our Good Friday worship begins at 12 noon.
All are welcome to attend at any time. To ensure that we have at minimum 2 people present during the watch, we invite you to sign-up for times in the Watch. Select the slot that best suits your time and location. If the slot you would like attend is filled, you may still attend those in person slots. PLEASE NOTE, all prayers between Thursday at 10 pm and Friday at 6 am will NOT be on Campus; they will be held on Zoom. We would like for two people to always be praying; if the slots when you would like to pray are full, please feel free to join in at that time also.
