Rector’s Forum Series • We Are God’s Plan: The Source of Our Meaning and Purpose
Lenten Sundays; 3.9, 3.16, 4.6, 4.13, 11:15 am, Lloyd Forum
Building on last fall’s two-part series, ‘Beyond the God of Good Outcomes,’ explore with Trinity’s Rector, the Rev. Morgan S. Allen, the demanding theological idea that God—loving creator rather than scheming puppeteer—has entrusted responsibility for the cosmos to none other than each of us. Weaving theological, philosophical, and popular-culture resources, Morgan will present God’s gift of freedom as the Christian hope’s essential ground.
Dean Emerita of the Seminary of the Southwest, Anglican biblical scholar, feminist theologian, and poet, the Very Rev. Dr. Cynthia Briggs Kittredge, received degrees from Williams College and Harvard University, and was ordained to the priesthood in the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts. A fuller bio may found here. Dr. Kittredge will join our Lenten explorations for two Sundays – March 23 and 30 – as a preacher and as the 2025 Price Lecturer.
On March 23, Dr. Kittredge will preach all three services, and, at the 11:15 am Forum hour, she and Rector Morgan Allen will share a conversation about scriptural engagement. Bringing perspectives from the pew, pulpit, and academy, they will ask one another: Who wrote the Gospels and why does that matter? What does it mean to “believe” scripture? How do I make sense of scriptural passages that don’t make sense?
On March 30, Morgan will preach all three services, and Dr. Kittredge will build on the prior week’s discussion, presenting a lecture entitled, “Faithful and Critical Engagement with the Theology of Luke the Evangelist.” Liberation theologians laud the gospel of Luke as the gospel of the poor, yet others criticize the same text for its accommodation to empire. As we engage the gospel with historical perspective and poetic imagination, we will encounter Jesus’ vision for healing, forgiveness, and salvation for all flesh.
Meatless Mondays in Lent
Mondays, 3/10 through 4/7
The Creation Care Ministry invites you to “go green” for Lent! Did you know that livestock production produces more greenhouse gases than the world’s entire transportation sector combined?! Consider enriching your Lenten observance by practicing “Meatless Mondays.” We’ll even supply you a recipe each week to help you do it! During this season of self-examination and repentance, let’s honor the goodness of God’s creation together. Click here for the recipes page.
Praying our Parish Prayer List Together
Mondays in Lent, 12:15-12:30 pm, on ZOOM Link Click Here
Each week our Prayer Ministry members gather to pray each of the names on our parish prayer list and then hold space for open intercessory prayer. During the season of Lent, our Prayer Ministry is inviting the Trinity community to join with them in this practice each week on Mondays at 12:15 via Zoom. It is a wonderful way to pause in your day and have a moment of quiet reflection with others in our community. We hope you will join us for one or even all six gatherings.

Jesus and the Disinherited, by Howard Thurman: Weekly Conversations during Lent
Thursdays, 3/13 – 4/2, 6:30-7:45 pm, on Zoom
Join the Anti-Racism Team on Zoom for lively, spirit-filled, conversations during Lent as we read together Howard Thurman’s Jesus and the Disinherited. In his influential book, first published in 1949, the author shows how the gospel may be read as a profound quest for a liberating spirituality for the poor and disenfranchised—and thus a manual of resistance for all. The discussions will be facilitated by Marva Nathan and Jon Hattaway. Contact Brandon Ashcraft, bashcraft@trinitychurchboston.org
Wed., 4/9, 5:45 pm, Church & Undercroft
Join us for Evensong at 5:45 pm followed by breakfast for dinner and Easter egg dyeing as we talk about Holy Week and God’s Love for all Creation!
Consider adding service to your Lenten observance and join your fellow Trinitarians to serve a meal at one of our shelter partners. Alongside existing partnership with Rosie’s Place and Pine Street Inn, Trinity will now also prepare and serve meals at our Back Bay neighbor Women’s Lunch Place, a day shelter community for women experiencing poverty and homelessness.
(FULL) Thurs., Mar. 6, 7-11 am, Women’s Lunch Place, 67 Newbury Street

Pysanky is the Ukrainian name for a wax-resist decorative egg, the pysanka. Pysanka comes from the verb pysaty, meaning “to write”, as the designs are written onto the egg with beeswax, rather than painted. This practice is a very ancient and beautiful tradition, most commonly done before Easter. Once finished, these pysanky can be used on the Easter table or as house decorations. Alona Popova will be our pysankarka for this class.
