What exactly is Morning Prayer, anyways? Morning Prayer is the first of the four Daily Offices of the Church.
The Offices (from the Latin word officium, meaning duty or service) seek to hallow time by providing God’s people – lay and ordained – opportunities and forms for prayer throughout each day. Morning Prayer is composed of readings from the Psalms, Hebrew Scripture, and Christian Scripture, as well as canticles (non-metrical songs drawn primarily from biblical texts other than the Psalms, but also from the writings of great Christians) and prayers. At Trinity, when Morning Prayer is offered on Sundays, portions of the Office are sung, and hymns and anthems are included.
