Trinity Church Boston has called an Associate Director of Music

June 21, 2023

Dear Friends,

With joy and excitement, I share the good news that Trinity Church has called an Associate Director of Music.

Over the past year it has been a gift to partner with Morgan in the search for our Director of Music, and then to continue building our music ministry team with Colin, first as our Interim Director of Music and now as our Director of Music. Grateful for Colin and the Associate Director of Music Search Committee’s hard work and faithful discernment, we look forward to welcoming Trinity Church’s new Associate Director of Music and Organist, Jerrick Cavagnaro, to the Trinity organ bench on August 13! I am excited to collaborate with this new team during the upcoming year. Please read the notes below from Colin and Jerrick, as they share my excitement, as well.

As we welcome Jerrick, we also express our gratitude for Manuel Piazza’s year as Trinity’s Interim Assistant Director of Music and Organist. Manny’s last Sunday will be July 16, and I invite you to join us that Sunday and share your appreciation.

Joyfully,

The Rev. Abigail W. Moon
Senior Associate

Dear Trinity Church,

After a year of many transitions in our musical life, I am thrilled to share the good word that Jerrick Cavagnaro will join us as Trinity's next Associate Director of Music. Beyond his stellar musicianship as organist and conductor, he brings a love of the Church, a gift and zeal for working with young choristers, a gracious spirit, and a wonderful sense of humor. While we had a fantastic pool of candidates, our search committee was particularly drawn to Jerrick's joyful and fun approach to his ministry.

Jerrick comes to us with significant experience serving in several churches with distinguished music programs. Before his most recent work at Christ Church in Charlotte, NC, he preceded Manuel Piazza as Organ Scholar at Trinity Church on the Green in New Haven, CT while earning his master's degree at Yale's Institute of Sacred Music. Previously, he served as Organ Scholar at St. Peter's in Morristown, NJ while studying at Westminster Choir College. As a native Northern New Jersian who first made music in the Roman Catholic Church, Jerrick and I have many things in common...height is not one of them! I am convinced that Trinity Church will now have both the shortest and tallest organist in the Episcopal Church! I look forward to you getting to meet him and sing with him.

In the meantime, please join me in thanking our search committee whose time and wisdom helped us make this happy call. I am also deeply grateful to Manuel Piazza for this past year of fantastic music-making. He will be missed, but we cheer him on as he returns across the Canadian border to begin a chorister program at St. Thomas's Church in Toronto. We look forward to celebrating Manny's stellar ministry and to wishing him Godspeed for his next call in ministry!

With gratitude and excitement,

Colin Lynch
Director of Music

Dear Trinity Church,

I am excited to be joining your staff as the new Associate Director of Music! I come to you from Christ Episcopal Church in Charlotte, NC where I have served as Assistant Director of Music and Organist for the past three years. Although I will miss my colleagues and friends in Charlotte, I am looking forward to becoming a member of Trinity’s music team and getting to work with Colin Lynch, the fantastic choirs, and playing Trinity’s marvelous organ. During the interview process, I could see clearly that Trinity is a community in every sense of the word. I am eager and enthusiastic to become a part of and contribute to this community. I was also impressed with the historic (and totally cool) building you get to worship in each week!

Another aspect of this transition that brings me joy is the proximity to home. I am a native of northern New Jersey and will be closer to my family in the Northeast. Beyond the realm of music, I enjoy vegetable gardening, cooking, and baking. There’s something about growing the ingredients you cook that fills me with satisfaction. But, of course, getting to share one’s culinary creations is the best part, which I look forward to doing with you all! As someone who loves walking and hiking, I am also excited to live in such a walkable city and can’t wait to explore the natural beauty Massachusetts has to offer.

Finally, I want to express my gratitude for the opportunity to join you all this Fall! I look forward to this new beginning with great anticipation.

Thank you,

Jerrick Cavagnaro
Incoming Associate Director of Music
