Stewardship 2021: Week 2

October 20, 2020

Dear Trinity Church and friends,

What a wonderful start to our Stewardship season!

Sunday’s Sermon

On the first day of our Stewardship season, Morgan preached a powerful message that “Love’s in Need of Love Today.” Recalling Stevie Wonder’s wisdom that “love itself is hollow … [and for it] to be effective, love must be fed,” Morgan challenged our congregation to “give our great love in a time of great need” – indeed, “to fill Trinity Church with our love.”

Sunday’s Testimonial

Also in worship, Dr. Ebi Okara compellingly shared his desire for a faith that was “more than just going to church every Sunday.” Through twenty years of ministry – from ushering at the West Doors, to his cycling as part of Team Trinity in the annual Rodman Ride in support of Trinity Boston Connects – Ebi reflects on Trinity as a home for purpose and meaning in his life.

“Home For Faith Kits” On Their Way To YOU!

Imagine a brigade of “Pony Express” riders (or maybe more aptly for our city, a cavalry of Paul and Pauline Reveres!) setting off from Copley Square and bringing a bit of Trinity into the wider world!  Well, the 2021 Stewardship Committee is coordinating hand-delivery of Stewardship “Home For Faith Kits” to as many in-state parishioners’ homes as we can.

You can expect to receive your Kit between now and this Saturday, October 24.  Please trust that this will be a no-contact delivery. A fellow parishioner will knock, place your Kit on your doorstep, wave hello if you are home, and then head to their next happy stop. We hope this simple, tangible reminder – shared hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart – will be an encouragement to you.

Prayer on the Square – Launching This Sunday, October 25

Beginning this Sunday, October 25, in addition to our continuing "From Home" worship at 9:45am we will host “Prayer on the Square” – a short, in-person service at 8:30 a.m. – from the West Porch of the church and facing Copley Square.  As we pilot this city-facing liturgy for six Sundays, we will carefully de-densify to keep one another safe.  Therefore, each week from October 25 to November 29, we invite a different subset of the parish (divided alphabetically by last name) to attend:

. October 25: A-D;

. November 1: E-J;

. November 8: K-O;

. November 15: P-S;

. November 22: T-Z;

. and November 29 will serve as a "make up day" for those who were unable to attend on their assigned week.

As we take this next step in the procession returning us to the altar, limiting the size of our gathering will ensure that we can keep each other safe, while also allowing us to welcome our neighbors on the Square. We will share more information about Prayer on the Square in this Thursday’s eBlast and in this Sunday’s Worship Booklet.

Share your love and make your pledge!

For those new to the idea of “Stewardship,” during this season at Trinity, we invite the people of our congregation to make a financial commitment for the upcoming year.  We call that commitment a “pledge,” and our pledge is a promise that we will make a priority of our relationship with God. Our pledge partners us in the reconciling, saving work God commissioned the Church. Our pledge grafts us into a movement greater than ourselves, an undertaking greater than what any one of us could accomplish alone. Our faithful pledge confirms our share in every ministry of this remarkable congregation.

We invite you to make your pledge as soon as you are readyWe welcome you to make your pledge here on the secure page of our website at any time, or to mail your hardcopy pledge in the church-addressed envelope you will receive in your Kit.

“Spire Sunday,” October 25

As a sign that you have made your pledge, we invite you to assemble the paper spire you will receive in your Home For Faith Kit and to share your creation – and your love! – with your whole parish family. Responding to the simple prompt, “Trinity Church Is My Home For …” we hope you will decorate your spire with words, drawings, or collaged images expressing how Trinity Church is a home for you. As your spire signals your love, please take a photo or two and send them to our Communications team by clicking here. We will then share our parish spires via the website, by email, and on social media.

In this Sunday’s Forum at 7:00p, Investment Committee Chair, Steve Hendrickson, and our Stewardship Committee Co-Chairs, Tim Kelly and Kathy Sheehan, will join our Treasurer, Olie Thorp; Assistant Treasurer, Jeff Taggart; and our Rector, Morgan Allen, for an overview of our 2020-2021 revenues, including our Stewardship goals for 2021.

Looking Ahead

For our All Souls worship in the morning of November 8, click here to share photos of those deceased family and personal friends you will be remembering on this special day.  We invite you to share 3-5 photographs (one photo of each person).  These images will be threaded into the visual presentation of our Choirs’ singing of Duruflé’s Requiem that day. Deadline for this submission is noon on Tuesday, November 3.

With thanks for sharing this Home For Faith with you,

Your 2021 Stewardship Team
