Ukrainian Folk Fusion Concert with Banduragirl; hosted by UCCN
Experience the captivating sound of the bandura, a traditional 56-string Ukrainian instrument, as Banduragirl (Anastasiya Voytyuk) presents Ukrainian folk music with a contemporary fusion twist. Hosted by the Ukrainian Cultural Center of New England (UCCN), this special concert will raise funds to support Ukrainian children affected by war, providing them with musical instruments and hope.
Concert Program:
Anastasiya’s program will feature beloved folk songs from across Ukraine, along with traditional winter carols, known as “shchedrivky”. Each song is brought to life through her unique arrangements or those created by her folk fusion band Troye Zillia.
The concert will last approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Throughout the evening, Anastasiya will share moving stories between songs on themes such as
- her performances for defenders near the front lines in Eastern Ukraine;
- memories of her godfather, who lost his life in the war;
- her work preserving folk songs from her home village;
- the origins and meanings of the songs she performs;
- the history of the bandura, including her development of a mobile app to teach people to play this unique instrument.
These stories make the concert deeply personal and meaningful, connecting the audience to the resilience and cultural depth of Ukrainian music.
