I thought I knew a lot about the history of racism in the US but I was surprised at how much more there was to learn. The curriculum is plentiful and rich in content, but there is also the freedom to determine how much you are able to engage—you can skim the surface of everything or do a deep dive. I met folks I wouldn’t have ordinarily and heard and learned from people with different backgrounds and perspectives. I left the program more committed than ever to working with others to tackle systemic racism.

Sacred Ground is a film-and readings- based dialogue series on race; grounded in faith; and created by the Episcopal Church to focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories. Sacred Ground Dialogue Circles will be offered this coming fall; join for an info session on Sun., Sept. 8, hosted by Trinity parishioners who have previously participated. The series is open to all parishioners and provides a broad historical and religious national context for our own personal growth and for our life as a parish.
For years I have been trying to understand the racism that seems to me to be endemic in the US. Studying, meeting, and praying with Episcopalians from my own community has helped me to identify and attempt to process discrimination that I hardly knew existed-in a safe place.
