Children & Family

Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not stop them, for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.” (Matthew 19:14)

Children are central to Trinity’s life and vitality as a parish family. Early Childhood Ministry (from birth to 3rd grade) partners with families; walking alongside and guiding children as they: learn about God; strive to emulate Christ’s life of service; explore the Bible; and understand the Church.

Children belong at the center of our collective worship. They thrive as we lovingly accept them as partners on our families’ shared journey of faith. Each member of Trinity’s community shares responsibility for nurturing children’s faith and honoring their spiritual gifts. We support parents as they nurture the spiritual growth of their children.

Sunday School operates from September-May/June, offering classes from preschool to 3rd grade. The Nursery is open year-round to children four and younger.

Children’s Homily at our 10 am Sunday service (Sept-May/June), or 9 am Sunday service (June-Aug) offers age-appropriate activities and teaching centered on the lectionary during worship, and a variety of family-focused events outside of services build community while celebrating children’s contributions to our parish.

Kenna Bartholomew

Minister for Early Childhood

Kenna Bartholomew serves as Trinity’s Minister for Early Childhood, working primarily with children from infancy through third grade. On Sunday mornings, you can find her in the Chapel giving the Children’s Homily during the 9 or 10 am service, where kids have the opportunity to explore the stories of the lectionary in their own creative and lighthearted ways.

Every child who comes through Trinity’s doors is beloved by God and their community. Kids are loud, messy, and brilliant at times, and each of these moments holds great importance in the life of Trinity Church. Kenna approaches children’s ministry with an emphasis on play and curiosity, which is essential to the development of the shortest (but never smallest) members of the church.

For the last decade or so, Kenna has worked with children in many different settings; including multiple churches, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and the Boston Children’s Museum. Her very first job in high school was working in her church’s nursery, and in her opinion, there is no job nearly as rewarding as caring for children and youth.

After growing up in the DFW area, Kenna graduated from McMurry University in Abilene, Texas. She then moved to Massachusetts to earn her MDiv from the Boston University School of Theology. Now, Kenna calls the Allston-Brighton area home, where she lives with her fiancée, Jess, and their two pets, Kronk and Oli.
