SUMMARY:Forum Series: Walls\, Windows\, and Women Artists
DESCRIPTION:As we anticipate our buildings’ 150th anniversary (on February 9\, 2027)\, these Forums will take a closer look at the extraordinary art that surrounds us each time we gather for worship—art that has helped to shape\, inform\, and inspire our faith for generations. \nIn this three-part series\, Trinity Church Historian Cynthia Staples and Tour Guides Keith Morgan and Peter Smiledge will explore the remarkable artists and artisans whose vision and craftsmanship created our magnificent worship space. \nOctober 4 — The Walls\nKeith Morgan will discuss the groundbreaking mural work of John La Farge\, whose innovative artistic vision helped transform Trinity Church into one of America’s great architectural and artistic treasures. \nOctober 11 — The Windows\nPeter Smiledge will explore Trinity’s renowned collection of stained glass\, tracing the remarkable nineteenth-century revival of this ancient art form and the artists who helped bring new life and brilliance to the medium. \nOctober 18 — The Women\nCynthia Staples will share the stories of the women whose artistry has enriched Trinity Church’s interior—from its walls to its windows and even its floors. Their work\, creativity\, and contributions are an important part of the story of the church we know and love today.
