SUMMARY:Guest Preacher Marissa Rohrbach
DESCRIPTION:Canon Marissa Rohrbach has served as the Canon for the Central Region in the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts since early in 2025. As a member of Bishop Julia’s staff\, she works with 63 congregations and worshipping communities in the city of Boston and the surrounding cities and towns. The work of the Regional Canons tends to focus on transitions\, collaborations\, supporting and strengthening congregations\, and is an extension of the Bishop’s ministry. Previously\, Canon Marissa served two congregations in Connecticut as Rector and as an Assistant in Philadelphia. She believes the parish is the building block of the kingdom of God and has a deep passion for serving God’s people as they do the work they’re called to do to love\, serve\, and change the world. Canon Marissa is married to Lyn\, and they have two amazing and miraculous young children. She has a deep love of cooking\, of gathering people around the table\, and of all things French\, particularly the literature of the middle ages & renaissance. She’s also an old school country music fan and a bit of a nerd. She is grateful and humbled every day to do this work with God’s beloved people in this region and in this diocese.

DESCRIPTION:Due to the snow in Boston\, this Companions Lunch has been postponed to Thurs.\, March 5. \nIn this divisive moment\, we are called to both go forth and build meaningful connection across lines of difference and to tend to our spirits and communities. Join us for presentation and conversation which focuses on this seemingly at-odds intersection. Participants will get a chance to develop the muscles of sacramental friendship as we experiment with spiritual practices from Be-Friend\, the Interfaith Friendship Program for students\, faculty\, and staff at Tufts University. \nOur guest Dr. Lynn A. Cooper is the Associate Director of the University Chaplaincy and Catholic Chaplain at Tufts University.  She holds a Doctor of Ministry from Boston University School of Theology and an M.Div. from Harvard Divinity School. Working in a multifaith chaplaincy context in higher education has been one of the great gifts of her life. At Tufts\, she runs an interfaith friendship for students\, faculty\, and staff\, facilitates the interfaith student council\, and directs an intergenerational oral history that magnifies the wisdom and stories of lay folks. Lynn’s first book\, Embracing Our Time: The Sacrament of Interfaith Friendship\, came out in May 2025 from Fortress Press. \nSign up here.

DESCRIPTION:On Dec. 23\, 2025\, Trinity Vestry member Chuks Okoli drove the short distance to his hometown of Ubulu from the state capital of Owerri\, Nigeria. After diverting to a smaller road because of traffic\, members of a separatist movement kidnapped Chuks and held him captive for 30 hours in an open tent until the payment of a ransom. His captors took his car\, wedding ring\, and other items of value on his person\, but they did not physically harm Chuks\, despite their threats and history of violence. At the Okolis’ request\, today we join their thanks to God with our own – along with family and friends livestreaming from Nigeria – for Chuks’ swift passage through this dangerous ordeal. \nAfter worship on Sun.\, Mar 8\, the Okolis’ family and friends invite you to join them for a seated lunch in thanksgiving for Chuks’ safe return.
