SUMMARY:Anti-Racism Team Summer Book Discussions
DESCRIPTION:June\, July & August offerings to deepen our understanding of the American story and align with the Civil Rights pilgrimage\, November 2026. All are welcome! \n#1. The Warmth of Other Suns\, The Epic Story of America’s Great Migration by Isabel Wilkerson (2010). . Wednesday\, June 24 \, 6:30 – 8 pm\, Zoom \nJoin us for a discussion of this groundbreaking book based on historical research and more than a thousand interviews. The story of the Great Migration is told through the lens of the lives of three remarkable protagonists: Ida May Gladney\, a sharecropper’s wife moving from Mississippi to Chicago in the 1930’s; George Starling\, a student and citrus groves worker fleeing from Florida to New York in the 1940’s; and\, Robert Foster\, a medical surgeon and war veteran leaving Louisiana with hopes of a better life in California in the 1950’s. \nWe welcome all interested to discuss the social\, political\, and spiritual journey of the people in the book and the collective cross-country journey of over six million Southern Blacks to the North and West and how this indelibly shaped America.
